Four-year-old injection press maker Guangdong Yizumi Seiki Machinery Co. Ltd. is adding capacity at its current campus in Shunde, Guangdong province, and also at a new site in Suzhou, Jiangsu province.
The company started the second phase of construction on the Shunde campus in October. Two new buildings will be completed by July, adding 20,000 square meters of manufacturing space.

"The expansion will enable the Shunde factory to double [its] capacity," said marketing specialist Hanwei Wu in an interview at the Asian-Pacific International Plastics and Rubber Industry Exhibition, held in Shanghai from November 29 to December 2.

He said the company plans to start building a factory in July 2008 on the recently secured Suzhou campus, which is on has 111 mu.

"The Suzhou location is strategic to us," Wu said, because it will give the company a foothold in the Yangtze River delta. "But we will carefully examine the regional market and competition and set up production in different phases."

Privately held Yizumi is the sole subsidiary of Hong Kong Yizumi International Holding Co. Ltd.

Yuzimi is a Japanese word meaning spring water.

The company currently employs 300 and offers injection presses ranging from 140-2,000 metric tons of clamping force. Wu said the machines are equipped with Japanese and German pump systems.

Injection presses, with 100 million yuan (US$13.5 million) in sales for the first half of 2007, represent about half of Yizumi's business. The remainder comes from metal die-casting presses, a product line that the company launched in 2005.

The company's sales are up 30 percent from a year ago, Wu said. Exports, mainly to customers in Southeast Asia, account for 20 percent of the company's total sales, he said.

At the Shanghai show, Yizumi touted three high-speed bottle cap presses, which ran with a five-second cycle time and fit molds of 24, 32 and 48 cavities. The presses were equipped with U.S.-made Barber-Colman controllers.

Wu said the company made 700,000 yuan (US$94,750) in equipment sales on the first two days of the show.

The company claims to be taking the lead in drafting industry standards for high-precision injection machines in Guangdong province. "We are authorized by the Guangdong Administration of Quality & Technology Supervision" he said.
